Oregon Trip

On June 30th I flew out of SFO to Portland, Oregon to spend a week with my brother and his wife in Springfield. Thanks to my boyfriend escorting me to SFO and my brother meeting me in Portland I did not have to carry a heavy suitcase at all. John and Jessica spent Monday showing me around the Eugene and Springfield area. On Wednesday, I took a bus to Eugene and spent a good portion of the day at the Oregon Bach Festival. St. John Passion I started at 4:30 and The 5 Browns were at 7:30.

I was grateful that my brother lived within walking distance of Main Street in Springfield.

Not only did this make accessing the grocery store easy, it also made taking public transportation easier. Bus fair cost twice as much as it does in San Francisco, but I must say that the drivers were very friendly and helpful with directions and the buses had printed fabric seat covers. Olympic trials were taking place, but if I ran into any sports celebrities I wouldn't know. Musical celebrities were left and right though. I thought I saw Maestro Rilling wave to my brother and me as we were walking to the garage as though we had met before. How friendly! We also got to meet the 5 Browns after their concert. A good portion of my Thursday morning was spent writing on postcards I bought at the festival. We didn't go to see fireworks because my flight back to SF was scheduled for 6 a.m., however, my Jessica bought steak and John grilled it outside.

For the most part the weather was very warm. I arrived during a tropical storm, but didn't see any lightning during my flight. Once I got off the plane and was heading toward the parking garage we started to see it. The air was especially muggy that evening and I had to let the fan run all night. I'm not sure what made more noise, the thunder that night or the fireworks on July 4th.

Nicole,
I remember the postcard with J.S. Bach that you sent me. Thank you!
